When a circuit is working correctly, the live current entering the appliance and the neutral current leaving it are equal. If the device detects a difference between the live and neutral currents, it trips the faulty feed and switches off the electricity. Trip sensitivity is set at 30mA to prevent any injuries. This is a suitable option for use in electrical engineering and automation applicaitons.

Both protect electrical installations to prevent electric shocks, but an RCD (residual current device) has overload protection whereas an RCCB (residual current circuit breaker) doesn't.
