Threaded rods are fasteners, Thet are long rods that have threads all along them or just on both ends. These rods are similar to a screw but much thicker and longer. Threaded rods can also be known as a stud.

Threaded rods are most commonly constructed from metals such as steel or stainless steel, but can also be produced in brass and even in Nylon. The thread can have a right hand or left hand thread pattern. Their main use is to fasten wood or metal together, also used to stabilise structures by being inserted into wood or even concrete.

Threaded rods come in various lengths and diameters so cover a huge range of applications. The rods are very useful as you can custom cut to length to suit your application

What is the difference in right hand and left hand thread?

A right hand thread is a clockwise rotation that will tighten the threaded rod to a fastener

A left hand thread is less common and found in applications where vibrations may cause the right hand thread to come loose

Thread sizes

A Metric screw thread is designated by the letter M and is then followed by its diameter which will be in mm, i.e M2, M4, M6, M8. M20 Etc.
