Electrocomponents gains recognition for their approach to sustainability

Singapore, 6 February 2008 :

Electrocomponents plc, the holding company of RS Components (RS), a global catalogue-based distributor of electronic, electrical and industrial components products, was recently recognised on the fourth Global 100 list of the most sustainable corporations in the world at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 24, 2008.

The Global 100 list includes companies from 16 countries in sectors ranging from Oil and Gas to Wireless Telecommunication Services. Initiated by Corporate Knights Inc, with Innovest as the exclusive research provider, companies are evaluated according to how effectively they manage environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities, relative to their industry peers. This year, with 24 companies on the list, the UK accounted for the most constituents, with two more jointly headquartered in the UK.

"Management of environmental and sustainability issues is an integral part of our company's strategy and approach to corporate responsibility and good governance. As the only distributor on the list, we appreciate the recognition of our management for the wider environmental impact of our business and our commitment to reducing it." explained Ian Mason, Group Chief Executive of Electrocomponents plc.

With increased scrutiny on corporate social responsibility management by investors, the inclusion of Electrocomponents plc on the Global 100 list puts it in good company. Over the past three years, the Global 100 has outperformed the MSCI World Index benchmark by over 700 basis points per year and the Dow Jones Titans Index by 900 basis points per year. Electrocomponents is also a member of the FTSE4Good index and participates in the Carbon Disclosure Project.
